Product information "Common Holly 'Blue Prince'®"
The holly 'Blue Prince'® stands out due to its very decorative, bluish green foliage. It clings to the plant all year round, which allows this variety to set green splashes of colour even during the winter. The leaves have a shiny surface and protect themselves with radial spikes against animal prey.Has no berries, but is a pollinator!
The variety 'Blue Prince'® are male plants. Although many small, white florets appear in May. However, they are all male flowers that produce masses of pollen, but do not produce fruits. Thus, 'Blue Prince'® is a valuable pollen donor and causes female varieties such as 'Blue Princess'® or 'Blue Angel'® (or other female Ilex meserveae varieties) to produce a particularly large number of fruits. In a large garden, it may therefore be advantageous to plant 'Blue Prince'® as a pollen donor to a group or hedge of 'Blue Princess'® or 'Blue Angel'® plants. On the other hand, insect pollen is also transported across certain distances.
A good privacy screen
With its beautiful leaves and dense growth, Ilex meserveae 'Blue Prince'® is a valuable hedge plant. Individually or planted in small groups, for example next to a sitting area, it offers an opaque screen. It is very frost hardy, it grows in the sun and shade alike and copes with every garden soil. Songbirds like to use the dense branches as a hiding place or nesting site.
