Product information "Columnar Serviceberry 'Rainbow Pillar'®"

This columnar serviceberry (also known as snowy mespilus) blooms in April and May with numerous flowers that shine in a pure white colour. The copper red shoots appear together with the flowers, creating a very beautiful play of colours. In July, the flowers form dark red, almost crimson, edible fruits. They are followed by a bright red autumn colouration of the leaves. This shrub offers many different colours and perhaps that’s where the variety name ‘Rainbow Pillar’ comes from. First, the very upright ornamental shrub is white, followed by purple fruits and finally the shrub shines bright red.
This columnar serviceberry should be planted in moist garden soil in a sunny location that is preferably protected from wind. Due to its very beautiful, upright growth, this mildew-resistant plant can be planted as a solitary plant, which is a real enrichment for the garden. It is also ideal for group plantings, where it presents itself well. Hedge plantings are also possible.
Amelanchier lamarckii 'Rainbow Pillar' should not be cut, but old shoots can be removed to rejuvenate the plant.
