Pruning (Christine)
We bought a potted hydrangea macrophylla Schloss Wackerbarth last summer. It did not flower. Today last years wood is springing lots of buds and there is also a healthy growth at the base of the plant. I believe spring is the time to prune the plant but how hard do I prune it. It is about 15 to 18inches tall. Do I cut it right back to the base? Your advise would be gratefully received. Thank you.
Pruning (Lubera)
Hi Christine, Hydrangea macrophylla flowers out of the terminal buds of last years wood. So if you cut the plant back you will lose the most flowers. Normaly there is no pruning necessary. Best regards your Lubera team
