Product information "Mophead hydrangea, blue"

The large, blue, flat-spherical flower balls that bloom from June through September are the most striking feature of Hydrangea macrophylla. This deciduous shrub reaches a height of up to 1.5 m. The blue umbels change to a blue-pink-green colour in September. Commonly known as bigleaf hydrangea or mophead hydrangea, it prefers evenly moist, slightly acidic soils and is therefore a good partner for rhododendrons.
Hydrangea macrophylla are the most popular hydrangeas grown in home gardens and landscapes. Since hydrangeas bloom on new wood, pruning should be “staggered” and not all shoots should be cut back every year. The flower colour can be determined by the soil composition. An acidic soil (pH below 7) will usually produce a blue flower colour, whereas an alkaline soil (pH above 7) will produce flowers more pink. This can be counteracted with a sour-acting fertiliser.
