Product information "Downy Japanese maple"
Acer japonicum 'Aconitifolium', also called full moon maple, is a slow-growing shrub with a beautiful, funnel-shaped, upright habit that grows into a small, multi-trunked tree. Small, purplish red flowers appear in early spring before the leaves. Full moon maple has large, almost fern-like, medium green leaves that are deeply divided and toothed. Each rounded leaf resembles a full moon, hence the name. The autumn colours of the full moon maple are fiery orange-red to red-brown.Due to its slow, not overly strong growth, Acer japonicum 'Aconitifolium' is suitable for smaller gardens, woodland edges, as an eye-catcher in perennial beds and also in containers for terraces, provided that the container "grows" with the plant. Full moon maple is easily grown in medium, well-drained soil in partial shade. Plant in a location protected from strong winds. For more erect growth, it is recommended to stake the trunk; or leave the tree alone for a full cascading effect.
