Product information "European spindle 'Red Cascade'"

This grafted form of the European spindle is distinguished by many, very large and decorative fruits. The orange-coloured seeds hang from the pink capsules; they are toxic to humans. The flowers, which appear in May to June, are greenish yellow, but overall rather inconspicuous. The deciduous shrub is tall and the shoots become slightly overhanging with age. In autumn, a beautiful, intense orange-red autumn colouring begins. Previously, the hardwood was used to make all sorts of items such as knitting needles and toothpicks, among other things and weaving spindles were also produced. Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cascade' likes sunny to partially shaded sites in humus-rich, permeable soil. The flowers and therefore the fruits appear on the old wood, so the shrub should only be thinned out and old shoots should be removed from the inside. If the spindle grows too large, a stronger cut can be carried out, but the flowering will be less in the following year. This ornamental shrub is used in groups or as a solitary plant and even in hedges it can be easily integrated.
