Product information "Purple Broom"
The beautiful flowers of the purple broom are very special; they appear from May to June. The flowers are pink and the petals are arranged in a very unique way. One petal is enlarged and sticks out like a small flag, while the lower petals are smaller and are fused into a small "boat". This type of flower is known as a butterfly flower and interestingly, this purple bloom attracts a lot of butterflies. The small flowers appear all over the entire shoots and they decorate the ornamental shrub in a lush splendor. The small, dark green leaves are a nice contrast to the flowers.
Tolerant to dryness and heat
The purple broom likes a sunny and dry location with slightly calcareous soil; dryness and heat are tolerated and the plant is very frost hardy. The thin shoots of the purple broom hang slightly over and are also partially low-growing; however elegant growth is obtained during the flowering period. With a stature height of about 60 cm Cytisus purpureus can grow about 1 m wide. Therefore this pretty ornamental plant is particularly suited for area plantings. Due to its high drought tolerance, this plant can also be used to decorate walls; the hanging shoots adorn the plant. Since the purple broom can fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil with the help of nodule bacteria, a very poor location can be chosen. Due to the reduced, compact habit, it is also possible to plant this broom in a container. The overhanging growth is particularly beautiful in a high pot.Short description of Cytisus purpureus
