Product information "Grafted Walnut 'Lara'"
With 'Lara', we introduce the first lateral-bearing walnut variety into our home garden assortment: it not only bears fruits on the terminal buds, but also on the lateral buds. And, of course, the vegetative growth is reduced by the relatively higher yield; the tree is smaller. Not very small, not as small as an apple tree, but the height of 'Lara' is then limited to 4-5 m, which is about half the size of a normal growing walnut tree. The fruits are large, plump and have a thin shell and a bright core. The nuts are easy to crack; the core separates well from the shell. The nuts taste slightly sweet and have a mild aroma. Lara, as described above, is weaker than the classical nut varieties and yields very quickly, after 2-3 years.
Fruits: Large, rounded, thin shell, light core, slightly sweet, mild aroma. Easy to crack, separates well from the shell
Growth: Weak, very fertile, fast growing yields, buds as early as mid-April, avoid late frost. Grows to about 4 - 5 m high, which is already much more compact than the classic varieties of nuts
Maturity: Mid to late September
Speciality: One of the weakest growing varieties, planting a pollinator (e.g. Europa) increases the fruit set. The space requirement for an older tree is approx. 20 - 25 m², sunny location
