Product information "Antarctic beech"

Nothofagus antarctica is a fast growing, deciduous shrub or small tree with very small, very wavy, medium green leaves that turn yellow to orange in autumn. It is wonderfully ornamental in the winter with its white lenticels on the scaly, branched stems. The flowers are inconspicuous yellow-green catkins.
Also known as Antarctic beech, this shrub should be planted singly due to its bizarre growth habit. It is very good for parks and public spaces; it thrives best in a sunny location and in fairly fertile soil. Antarctic beech will not tolerate calcareous soils. It needs ample water and good drainage.
