Product information "Bistorta affinis 'Donald Lowndes'"

Knotweed is the problem solver among the perennials, since it thrives well under almost all circumstances. It has flat, carpet-like growth and can very quickly form dense mats that no longer allow weeds to emerge. This plant spreads rapidly by short rhizomes. Above the lush, light green lance-like foliage, countless, bright red blossoms that appear from July until well into September. As they fade, they first turn pink and then they are white at the end of flowering. This creates attractive colour variations. Bistorta affinis 'Donald Lowndes' prefers locations in full sun with well-drained, slightly moist, lime-free soils; this plant also tolerates partial shade very well. It is particularly well suited for plantings in flower beds and near shrubs; it is also ideal for larger rock gardens, on staircases and natural plantings. It is absolutely frost hardy, but produces shoots very late after hard winters.
