Dwarf basket of gold is a popular ground cover that blooms early. With its low-lying, pincushion-like growth it reaches a height of about 25 cm. From early April, numerous, bright yellow flowers appear in dense clusters above slightly hairy, gray-green lanceolate leaves. A warm and sunny location with dry, humus-rich, well-drained soil is preferred. Alyssum saxatile is a cushion plant for rock gardens, rock gardens, dry stone walls and it is also suitable for planters and pots. It is particular attractive when combined with other early blooming perennials such as aubretia, candytuft, early phlox, etc. In addition, the plant gives off a pleasant fragrance and is visited by numerous insects.
