Product information "Achnatherum calamagrostis"

Silver oat grass grows up to one metre, blooms in the summer months with numerous, arched overhanging feathery flower tufts and remains attractive until well into the winter. Only a gentle breeze is enough and the flower clusters start to dance. The flower clusters are initially yellowish-white and change colour over time to yellow-brown. It forms clumps and has simple, glossy green leaves that turn yellowish brown in autumn. Achnatherum calamagrostis is an extremely useful grass with a high ornamental value. It is particularly suitable for dry areas and steppe plantings. It should be planted in full sun in perennial beds and the soil should be well-drained. It acts as a loosely interspersed structure plant that stabilises other plants. In sunny locations with summer and autumn aspects, it can show its effects as an imposing solitary shrub when planted with other grasses together with sunflowers, asters, sedum and Heuchera. Silver oat grass should not be cut in autumn, as the leaves are used for winter protection and they are also very ornamental in the winter.
