Product information "Allium tuberosum"

Garlic chives probably come originally from Asia. The bulbous leek is strongly reminiscent of chives, but it is a little taller than them. It grows from cylindrical, up to 1 cm large tubers. Its leaves are tubular, triangular and dark green. Due to the formation of daughter bulbs, its growth is clump-like. The white umbels that appear from July to September consist of star-shaped florets and they have a slight fragrance of roses. Allium tuberosum prefer sunny to semi-shady locations with calcareous, humus-rich, moist, clay soil that is rich in nutrients. The plant finds use in herb gardens, in borders and perennial beds. In order to harvest chives throughout the entire year, the plant can be forced if it is dug out in autumn. For this, remove the dried leaves and plant it in a pot, which then finds its place on a warm windowsill. In the kitchen, the bulbous leek is used like chives. Its flowers can be used decoratively in salads.
