Product information "Spiny Bear's Breech"

Acanthus spinosus is an impressive ornamental perennial that has feather-like, deeply notched, dark green, glossy foliage which is covered with white spines. The white-pink flowers with purple bracts are lined up in dense spikes and they are very decorative. Commonly called bear's breaches or armed bear's breech,Acanthus spinosus is particularly beautiful in large perennial beds, cottage gardens or as an imposing solitary tree in front of buildings or walls. It can also be used effectively in steppe plantations or in light, dry areas with woody plants. In good site conditions, Acanthus spinosus tends to form runners and it spreads out; therefore the location should be considered very well and plenty of space should be allowed. This ornamental perennial can also serve well as a structure plant in large plantings. Its inflorescences are very decorative in the winter. In harsh areas, winter protection using brushwood is recommended.
