Product information "Aquilegia vulgaris 'Black Barlow'"

This columbine differs from other columbines due to its unique-coloured, double flowers. It has an upright, loose habit. Its leaves are lobed two to three times and they have a matte, blue-green colour. From May to June, violet-black flowers appear, arranged in panicles. Columbines love semi-shaded to sunny locations with well-drained, moderately moist, humus-rich to nutrient-rich soil. They are particularly suitable for semi-shaded perennial borders, in the foreground of hedge plantings and modern cottage gardens. In large flower beds, you can allow self-sowing in order to obtain abundant stocks. In smaller beds, the faded panicles should be removed on time. The Barlow varieties are particularly distinctive when combined with barrenwort, bellflowers, wild bushes, foxgloves, wood anemones, hostas and bugle.
