Product information "Baptisia australis"

False indigo or rattleweed is an unusual perennial that is not very well known. It has a bushy and clump-like habit and grows up to more than a metre high. From June until well into August, its bright, dark blue, lupin-like flowers appear. The individual flowers are very similar to that of Lupin. However, this plant is not as susceptible to disease like lupins. False indigo prefers a rather bright location. The demands on the soil are rather small, only permanent wetness is not tolerated. It takes a while for this perennial to develop to its final size. This very durable plant is ideal for natural gardens, cottage gardens, woodland edges, prairie plantings, steppe plantings, sunny perennial borders or gravel gardens with tall grasses. Because of its deep taproot it does not like interference and should therefore no longer be transplanted after it starts to grow.
