Product information "Carex buchananii"

Leatherleaf sedge is an exceptional sedge. It has a clump-like habit and grows about 50 cm high. At the beginning of its growth it is rather upright. However, this changes at the time of flowering in July; then it is slightly arched, overhanging and slightly turned at the ends of the stalks. The spikes are rather inconspicuous. Throughout the year, the stalks are fox red, reddish brown and sometimes light red; they are evergreen or rather “everred”. Leatherleaf sedge prefers a sunny to partially shaded location in moist to moderately moist, humus-rich and well-drained soil. Carex buchananii can be used in sunny to partially shaded perennial borders, rock gardens and natural gardens. However, at waterfronts and at pond shores it looks very interesting. Due to its interesting colour, it can provide exciting accents in combination with other perennials.
