Product information "Aconitum carmichaelii 'Arendsii' (veg)"

Chinese aconite or Carmichael's monkshood owes its name to the upper sepals. They jut out like a helmet above the flowers. From the beginning of September until well into October, it shows its strong violet blue panicles in loose clumps and grows up to 140 cm high. The lush, dark green leaves are serrated and glossy palmate. Since Aconitum carmichaeli was formerly a forest dweller, it also prefers a partially shaded location in gardens with fresh, nutrient-rich soils. It comes into its own the best in natural plantings, in conjunction with goat’s beard, woodland bluebells, bugbane, foxglove and autumn anemones. Similarly, in combination with some grasses, such as tufted hair grass, it is very attractive. But also in partially shaded perennial plantings, as well as in cottage gardens, it should not be missing as a striking autumn bloomer. Moreover, this plant is a particularly valuable perennial used for cutting because it keeps for a very long time in autumn bouquets. But beware: All parts of this plant are very toxic to both humans and animals. It is also important to cut off withered flowers, as the formation of seeds weakens the plant.
