Product information "Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea'"

Purple wood spurge is a particularly decorative variety among the euphorbia. It has a pronounced ornamental value because it is evergreen. In the winter, the leaves on the red stems turn dull purple. In the course of the spring, bright wine red tips appear on the shoots and the lower leaves turn green. Then starting in April, bright greenish yellow flowers appear, which are slightly nodding at the top; they form a delightful contrast to the otherwise rather dark foliage. Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea' has a loose, bushy habit and elliptical, slightly pointed leaves. It prefers semi-shaded locations with rich, well-drained, sufficiently moist soils. Purple wood spurge should therefore be planted in the light shade of trees and in shady, spacious rock gardens. In the winter, a slight protection using brushwood should be given in order to protect it from drying out in the winter sun. Contact with the plant’s milky sap causes skin irritation, therefore gloves should be worn when handling the plant.
