Product information "Asarum europaeum"

Wild ginger is a wonderful, albeit slow-growing ground cover with loose, creeping growth that spreads via short runners. It has dense, dark green, veined, kidney-shaped leaves, which seem like they are coated with wax and thereby very shiny. In addition, this plant is evergreen. With its brilliant foliage it is as very valuable ornamental perennial; its nondescript, brown-red flowers bloom hidden under the foliage. Wild ginger loves shady areas with light loamy, calcareous and fresh soils. This perennial can be used at the edge of perennial beds or as an area planting under trees. Asarum europaeum can be used as a medicinal plant, but it is also toxic. The rhizome contains essential oils that smell slightly like ginger. Filigree flowering perennials such as barrenwort fit very well with this plant. Shaded corners quickly turn into true treasures.
