Product information "Aconitum napellus"

Monkshood or mountain aconite owes its name to the upper sepals. They jut out like a helmet above the flowers. This plant grows tightly upright. Its flowers appear in dense panicles and bloom from mid-June until well into July. The dark green, shiny leaves are palmate and deeply slit. Since Aconitum napellus was formerly a forest dweller, it also prefers a partially shaded location in gardens with fresh, nutrient-rich soils. It comes into its own the best in natural plantings, in conjunction with astilbe, great masterwort, lady's mantle and hostas. Similarly, in combination with some grasses, such as tufted hair grass, it is very attractive. But also in partially shaded perennial plantings, as well as in cottage gardens, it should not be missing as a striking autumn bloomer. Moreover, this plant is a particularly valuable perennial used for cutting because it keeps for a very long time in autumn bouquets. But beware: All parts of this plant are very toxic to both humans and animals. It is also important to cut off withered flowers, as the formation of seeds weakens the plant.
