Product information "Angelica archangelica"

Garden Angelica is an imposing plant in perennial beds because it grows up to 2.5 m high. It is a native perennial and both annual and biennial. Its stems are very thick, hollow at the base, finely wrinkled, branched above and usually reddish. While the lower leaves have two to three times pinnate stem leaves, round stems and large, inflated sheaths, the upper stem leaves are small and simply pinnate. In the summer, greenish white or yellowish flowers appear in large, 20 to 40-ray, semi-hemispherical umbels without bracts. This plant is suitable for very large perennial beds and natural plantings, which should always have access to water (a pond or stream). In nature they are found in wet meadows, lowland forests, along rivers and roadsides. Garden Angelica prefers damp, loamy soil. Here’s more useful information: the plant contains essential oils that are toxic in high concentrations. It also has furanocoumarins and due to them, the plant’s juice can cause light redness and even inflammation of the skin. In the Middle Ages, it was considered a cure-all remedy for protecting against infection; it was grown in home gardens and used as a fumigant. It was used as an energetic protection against witches, demons and ghosts. Such described remedies are often good immune stimulants, i.e. they have a protective effect on our immune system.
