Blueberries - a new research area at Lubera
In the last 5-10 years, blueberries have become one of the best-selling soft fruit species. We have therefore intensified our selection efforts accordingly and have selected the best tasting varieties for you (Blue Dessert, Blueroma, as well as Sunshine Blue). Thanks to our second production site in Ammerland near Oldenburg (with bog-like soil), we are now more and more intensely breeding and selecting blueberries. With regard to the global diversity of varieties and species it is first crucial to the test the blueberries, which are becoming increasingly popular, in terms of their suitability for gardens. Because even with the blueberries, as with many other types of fruit, they are almost only grown for commercial cultivation.

VENTURA blueberries (A. emery)

Do you ever have 'Ventura' Blueberries. Had variety from Sainsburys flavour & size fabulous. I have never been a real lover of blueberries - found them either too sharp flavoured with tough skin or rather mushy soft with an over the best flavour. However found 'Ventura' to be WONDERFUL flavour with skin not too tough or sharp flavoured. I believe (web searches) it is a newer variety that originated in California - apparently commercially grown in Spain - (shown as country of origin on Sainsburys pack that I purchased). Not sure whether a little fussy regarding growing conditions but think as originated in California and grown now in Spain, wonder if here in South West UK may just be OK (assuming they are available for retail trade). It appears to be best after a little cold in winter. Apparently follows 'Snowchaser' for fruiting period. I have never wanted to grow Blueberries before but would love to grow plenty of these - if you do not at present supply this variety are you likely to in the future?
