Lubera stops plant deliveries to the UK
Due to Brexit, we are not able to deliver to the UK. We are working on a solution on how we can continue to bring a wide range of Lubera plants to the UK and directly to our customers' homes in the future. However, such a solution will not be available before 2022 or 2023.

Product information "Strawberry Parfum® Eternal Love (Ewigi Liebi)"

The strawberry Parfum® Eternal Love (Ewigi Liebi) is a breeding breakthrough. This is an everbearing variety that tastes better than all previous everbearing strawberries:  it is not only sweeter but also more aromatic. With our breeding work, we have succeeded in combining the best characteristics of garden strawberries and wild strawberries in this so-called Vescana hybrid. The new Lubera variety Parfum® Eternal Love (Ewigi Liebi) has the size, firmness, and sweetness of garden strawberries and the aroma and fragrance as well as and that certain something from wild strawberries. And last but not least: It is also robust and in our experiments, it has shown the best autumn colour of all everbearing varieties.
Maturity: From early June through the entire summer, everbearing; ripe and good when it turns dark red
Fruit: Medium to large, heart-shaped at first, later somewhat irregular; intense dark red (evenly coloured) with conspicuous, yellow seeds
Taste/flavour: Fruity sweet, with a hint of acidity; there is a slight, but distinct fragrance of wild strawberries; with respect to fruit quality in our experiments, this is the best everbearing variety; even at full maturity, there is a sense of "crispness" when you bite into the fruit
Yield: Medium to high
Growth: Compact, forms relatively strong and many offshoots that sometimes start to bloom and bear fruit; healthy foliage, even in the summer
Everbearing Parfum® Strawberries
Actually, we have known about everbearing strawberries for a long time. They differentiate their flowers all summer long; the formation of the flowers is not dependent on the length of the day and we can harvest the fruits again and again. And there are...strawberries. But nothing more! Actually, we admit that certain something is lacking... and just that is what we were looking for in our strawberry breeding: everbearing strawberries that taste like strawberries are supposed to taste. They fit into every mouth, and they are not like bulky cones that block the mouth, but rather, they are enjoyed by the taste buds. The path to our new everbearing varieties led through Fragaria x vescana hybrids (several generations), until we found new everbearing strawberries for gardens that met our objectives and brought the best features of the garden strawberry and wild strawberry together. They are perfect in taste, they have an intense fragrance, they are extremely durable with fruitful yields, they have a pleasant, medium size - and all that throughout the entire summer...

Some of our everbearing Parfum® strawberries are closer to the modern garden strawberries; they are large, crisp and sweet (like Parfum® Ewigi Liebi); others have characteristics that are more similar to Vescana strawberries (e.g. Parfum® Fraisonette and Parfum® Fraisibelle). But they all have in thing common: The special fragrance, the perfume that immediately flows through the nose after enjoying the sweet berries. They are just strawberries that taste and smell like a strawberry.
Where does the “Parfum” come from in Lubera’s Parfum strawberries?
What is often described as a "wild strawberry fragrance" and what makes strawberries that still taste like strawberries to many connoisseurs, is actually the smell of methyl anthranilate, which we perceive at the finish while exhaling through the nose.
Why I breed new varieties of strawberries for growing in gardens...
• because strawberry breeding has been primarily carried out for industrial commercial cultivation, which asks for very different properties than amateur gardeners
• because most market varieties can be easily picked; they are firm and high-yielding, but the flavour is mostly mediocre
• because strawberries should taste like strawberries again!

How long can strawberries bear fruit? How long can a strawberry bed be allowed to stand? For a long time! But when should it be renewed? Here is also a simple rule of thumb: we let the same strawberry plant bear fruit for two years; and if we have the time and inclination to propagated strawberries ourselves, we add another two years, where we enjoy the fruits of our self-propagated plants. But then we should buy new plants. But why? Because with the older plants the fruits become smaller and worse, because there are too many inflorescences per plant and because the risk is always greater that the strawberries will suffer from a disease or a virus and therefore the performance is limited.
