Product information "Currant Ribest® Decorette®"

A currant can be this beautiful: a long string, tightly packed with big red berries, no gaps, a single fruit consisting of many fruits, as if the currant string was not comprised of individual fruits, but would be a compound fruit...if the goal has been to make a beauty queen out of a Cinderella fruit, then we have done our job! And so that it is also clear how this very special variety may be used: even during the harvest we select the finest strings (which make up 60-70% of the total yield for this variety). We do not take the berries off the strings and we do not process them into jam, no, we place them on a baking tray and freeze them individually. Later, we put the frozen, individual strings in a freezer container and then bring them out of the freezer as needed, for all possible and impossible dishes and for decorative purposes. (And now you will be able to reply to a question from a host, such as how the food was: "It was good, but the red currants that were used for decoration…I have much more beautiful ones at home!").

Maturity: Medium late, mid to late July, can hang very long on the bush
Strings/berries: Medium-sized strings, very densely packed on the most beautiful currant strings that we have ever seen. Strings that almost look like little red corn on the cob
Taste: Good, but the validity of this variety is the fantastic strings, the taste does not come near our best varieties Suzette®, Lisette® and Rosa Sport®
Growth/health: Rather broad, somewhat loosely-branched growth
Yield: Very large yield
Training: Bush and trellis, in the latter case, the strings will be more beautiful and more dense
Use: Freeze whole strings and use as a decoration for a variety of dishes; of course, also as a source of vitamins for muesli

Tips

Plant deep when training as a bush If you want to grow the red or white currant as a bush, it makes sense to plant the young plant deep, so that the top edge of the root ball is covered with 10-15 cm topsoil. This will ensure that sufficient dormant buds are under the soil and that new basal shoots soil can be produced constantly, which rejuvenate the shrub. If a 3-branch hedge or even spindle training is planned, where the ground shoots are rather undesirable, then the currant should be planted higher.
