Product information "Gooseberry Easycrisp® Mr. Green® (almost) thornless"

Mr. Green, a green-coloured, (almost) thornless gooseberry, complements the yellow, thornless variety Lady Sun and the red variety Lady Late. A great team! Mr. Green originates from Lubera's own breeding programme.
Maturity: Medium early to medium ripening, in normal years at the end of June
Fruit: Large, light green, round, hairless fruit; significantly larger than 'Lady Sun', similar to 'Lady Late'
Flavour: Very sweet and pleasant with some sourness, thin skin, therefore enjoyable to eat, one of the best gooseberries
Yield: Extremely fertile variety, very uniform yield
Growth/health: This new generation of Lubera gooseberries has significantly improved tolerance to mildew and blight when compared to the first Crispa varieties and the mildew-tolerant market varieties such as 'Invicta'. This shrub is compact and wide-growing; stabilise the long shoots when the yields are very high (shorten somewhat or tie up); this is an Easycrisp® variety; it is a variety with very few thorns, which can still occur especially in the lower half of the shrub and on older wood.

These are plants that can be enjoyed immediately and without effort once planted.
  • Lubera Breeding This plant was bred by Lubera in Switzerland and placed on the market after extensive testing at our facilities in Buchs (CH) and Bad Zwischenahn (D). In 20 years of work, Lubera's founder and breeder Markus Kobelt has bred more than 80 of his own new varieties for the home garden; they all have the goal of providing you, our customers, with more experience and flavour, easier growing and more resistant, more robust varieties.

Yield? (Frank)

Hi Is Mr Green a heavier crop of fruit than gooseberry Lady Sun? Thanks.

Yield? (Sal)

Hi What's the yield with this plant. I grew Lady Sun but the yield has been poor last couple of years as all the flowers kept dropping off after heavy rain and wind. I want a thornless type gooseberry with more resilient flowers. Thanks.

Yield (Lubera)

We never had problems with small yields in this variety. Maybe the pollination with insects is poor?

Fruiting season? (Pete)

Do all your gooseberry cultivars finish fruiting quickly within two weeks like gooseberry Lady Sun? Is Mr Green thornless type a longer season or short too? Thanks there.

Yield (Mick)

Hi there, What yield can I expect from this plant when it is fully mature and could I buy this plant from Amazon in a smaller container e.g 2 litres instead of the more expensive 5 litre one, to offset the postage charges Amazon adds? I saw Lubera's range of other plants recently and was well impressed. Thanking you.

Yield (Sonja Dreher)

the yield depends on the environmental conditions the gooseberry gets.
If everything is ok, than you can get 4-5 kg from a matured bush.
We only sell the gooseberry in a 5 ltr pot.
but if you order directly in our online shop, you won't have to pay for shipping at all, as all our fruit bearing plants are free of shipping costs.
kind regards
Sonja Dreher
