Due to Brexit, we are not able to deliver to the UK. We are working on a solution on how we can continue to bring a wide range of Lubera plants to the UK and directly to our customers' homes in the future. However, such a solution will not be available before 2022 or 2023.

Product information "Gooseberry Crispa® Darling®"

Our meanwhile huge gooseberry breeding programme continues this year with over 10 years of breeding work. We have been wanting to simultaneously improve the fruit quality and tolerance to powdery mildew. Since the latter is polygenic, i.e. not absolute, but rather a kind of better or worse tolerance, it needs up to five years of inspection for testing in order to have reliable and resilient results. In the end, the varieties that are now being introduced to the market place all standard varieties far behind them in terms of mildew tolerance; and at the same time, the plant offers a fruit quality that is absolutely fantastic. The gooseberry goes from being the jam-making fruit of our ancestors (and the English!) to a trendy snack fruit! In this series of new varieties, Darling is the variety with the best flavour; the fruits are only medium-sized, but they have a luscious and attractive light to medium red colour.
Maturity: Average maturity, significantly after Flavia and Solemio
Fruits: Medium-sized, slightly oval or teardrop-shaped; light red to bright red, never completely dark like Flavia and Lady Late, the most beautiful of the red gooseberry colours; harvest often with stems, absolutely hairless
Flavour: The best variety in Crispa assortment; slightly more fruity, more berry flavour than the other varieties; perhaps with a hint of raspberry flavour. Sweet, but also accompanied by a refreshing acidity when fully ripe or overripe; the ultimate berry snack
Growth/health: Upright, beautifully tight growth; excellent resistance to American gooseberry mildew and blight
Yield: High, they berries are distributed regularly above the bush
