Product information "Lowberry® Raspberry Little Red Princess®"

The world's first compact autumn raspberry

The Lowberry® Little Red Princess® makes the garden raspberry ideal for growing in pots. Not only does it grow compactly (about 80-100 cm high), but it also bears fruit on this year's canes. Thus, it differs significantly from compact summer raspberries, e.g. Ruby, whose canes only bear fruits starting in the second year, making the cultivation and care very complicated.
The fruits of Little Red Princess® are sugary sweet, medium-sized and regularly shaped. They can be harvested from the middle of June on the side shoots of last year's canes and from the middle of August on this year's fresh shoots. Ultimately, Little Red Princess® could also be described as an everbearing or continuous-bearing raspberry.
Little Red Princess® is easy to grow; it has a stable and upright habit, so it does not need extra support and it is also thornless. It can be cultivated for a short time on a balcony in a pot with a volume of approx. 5 L. For growing multiple years in a pot, the volume should be at least 10 L or more. When growing the plant in a pot, good drainage is necessary.
Short description
Cultivation: Bears fruit on one-year-old canes, also on the side shoots of last year’s canes
Maturity: 20 August to early October on the new canes; June/July on last year’s canes
Fruits: Medium large, conical, bright red fruit with excellent flavour
Growth: Thornless, strong branching, each side shoot has buds and fruits, 80-100 cm high, as much light as possible, plant/place in full sun
Pruning: It is best to cut back the old canes in February/March to approx. 20-30 cm; this creates space for the emergence of new canes and on the stumps of the old shoots fruitful side shoots appear early in June
The all-rounder
One of the greatest advantages of Little Red Princess® is that you can do almost anything with this plant – and it will always be fruitful. If the old shoots are removed to ground level in February, a large number of new shoots are produced, which then produce fruit starting in the middle of August. And if the old canes are partially allowed to stand and e.g. only be cut back to about 30 cm, there will also be very early ripening fruits that appear in June. Whatever you do, Little Red Princess® always bears fruit.

Growing in pots:   Of course, like no other berry plants, the Lowberries® are suitable for pots. Be sure to always use a planter with good water drainage; this can be improved with additional holes and gravel in the bottom of the pot. Please choose a coarse substrate with a stable structure; a potting soil for container plants is best.

"Lowberry® Raspberry Little Red Princess®" (sonja dreher)

If you plant our Lowberries® now ( you don't need to sow them), then they will most likely fruit in 2016, especially if you choose the bigger plant in a 5 ltr. pot.
