Product information "Raspberry Primeberry® Malling Happy®"

With Malling Happy, we are bringing the first variety from our breeding cooperation with the research station East Malling in Kent, England to the market. For almost 7 years we have been selecting the seedlings of the breeder Feli Fernandez for suitable varieties for the home garden. How does this work? It goes like this: I fly 4-6 times to London in the summer, then drive to Kent with the rental car, then I look at and try raspberries and then go back again. These days are among my most favourite, but also my “most demanding” of the year.
The reason why we chose this variety as the first garden raspberry, the first fruit of our cooperation for the home garden, is ultimately based on its overall qualities: it is robust and forms enough canes, it begins to bear fruit medium early, i.e. in the first or second week of August (like the old variety Autumn Bliss), the fruits are huge, aromatic, with a stunningly beautiful, conical shape, and the canes are absolutely thornless from top to bottom.
Malling Happy is not a Twotimer raspberry, yet it still belongs to the autumn raspberries, which tend to be higher. They can reach heights of 170-190 cm and the canes must also be stabilised because of the extremely high yield. This explains the name: Malling Happy is predestined to make hobby gardeners and raspberry lovers happy. No more thorns, and yet the largest fruits!
Cultivation: Bears fruit on one-year-old canes, from 10th of August, at the beginning of August for older crops or after a few years
Maturity: From August to mid-October, early
Fruits: Huge, conical berries, with medium-sized, single fruits, beautiful structure, fruit flesh is also very stable, berries do not fall apart; but they are probably too soft to grow commercially and cannot withstand the transport over hundreds of kilometres –  but their flavour and other features are perfect for the garden
Growth: Medium to strong; has the typical, narrow cane growth, with the slight, spindle-like fruit-bearing branches that distinguish English
raspberry breeding; however this variety surpasses the last variety 'Autumn Treasure' in yield and fruit size
Health: Robust against Phytophthora, ideal for growing in gardens and small allotments. Make your neighbours wonder and make yourself

The 100-year-old Research Institute East Malling, Kent (UK)
East Malling is probably the most famous European Research Institute of Pomology and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013. Globally, 80% of all fruit trees are grafted on M or MM rootstocks, all of which were bred in East Malling. We at Lubera are proud that we work closely with East Malling. For example, we select raspberry varieties for the home garden market in East Malling and bring these varieties exclusively to the European market.
