Product information "Rhubarb Red Valentine"

Stalks: Moderately thick and medium-sized, largely red
Harvest: Medium late
Flavour: very mild, gourmet rhubarb
Use: Cakes, pies, compotes
Planting Lubera® Rhubarb
Rhubarb tolerates light shade; however, maximum yields are only possible when light and nutrient conditions are good
Light to moderately heavy, humus- rich; possibly improve with compost before planting; avoid waterlogging
Fertilisation: Organic fertiliser is preferred; incorporate compost or rotted manure every year
(February/March); provide each plant with 30 g fertiliser (6/8 months) in April.
• Do not harvest in the year of planting, since the rhizome is not very strong
• In the 2nd year, only harvest until mid-May
• In the 3rd year, the harvest can take place until mid-June
• Do not harvest rhubarb after the middle of June due to the rising content of oxalic acid in the stems; through the assimilating leaves the plant forms reserves for the next year
• Harvest 2–4 of the plants’ strongest leaves per week; remove the inflorescences that start appearing in May
  • Ripeness/Harvest Period May, June
  • Final height 40cm to 60cm
  • Final width 40cm to 60cm
  • Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November

  • Sweetness moderately sour
  • Use beds/borders
  • Hardiness hardy
  • Soil heavy, moderately heavy, light, slightly alkaline, neutral, slightly acidic

valentine rhubarb (kevin mcbride)

should these be planted out straight away or can they be kept in their pot for a few months?

valentine rhubarb - in a pot (Philipp Schneider)

we recommend to plant rhubarb plants at their designeted place as soon as possible. The plant will survive some further weeks in the pot, but the growth and the health will be much better at an outside place in the soil.

Best regards,
Philipp Schneider, Lubera-Team.

Are the plants despatched from Switzerland? On a light gravel/sandy soil will the addition of vegetable compost and organic fertilisers provide a suitable soil for rhubarb?

rhubarb (Sonja Dreher)

the soil is ok the the rhubarb.
Our plants, sent to EU countries all come from Northern Germany, where we have a second nursery. They are original swiss bred plants.
kind regards
