An Indian health source
The Indians knew what they ate. Saskatoon have very high levels of anthocyanins and antioxidants. But they are also very rich in calcium and iron. Did the Indians use this plant to aid their late springtime fatigue? No, it was too late because this vitamin-rich food ripens in mid-summer! But even in the summer, you can use more power!
Amelanchier alnifolia
The original form of the Saskatoon berry is in the North American prairie. During the last 30 years in Canada, cultivars were selected with better characteristics regarding the habit, flowers and fruits. The name Saskatoon goes back on the Indian name for the shrub.

Saskatoon (Paul)

I note that some argue that Saskatoon fruits better if there is cross pollination with another variety. Would you confirm this please ?
