Product information "Dwarf Hops 'Gimli'"
Variety: The most compact hop variety with large fruitsGrowth: Short internodes, has somewhat smaller leaves than the green Heinrich, large fruits
Use: A super variety for growing in pots or in smaller gardens, use like Mercury
Lubera garden hops:
Can be used as a solitary plant, at the end of terraces, on an arch or as a screen (hedge). Hops can also green fences, trees and pergolas. For a hedge, plant 2-3 plants per metre. In solitary plantings let two shoots grow; for hedges three to four shoots per plant are ideal. For rose arches, allow one or two shoots from each side to grow; the best selected shoots should be tied to the trellis in the spring; this thus gains time and enable the full structure to grow rapidly.
Pruning:
- Cut back in March to just above the ground, or after the autumn harvest
Hops as a container plant:
- Use large containers, with a diameter of at least 25cm
- Use a good structured, stable substrate or potting soil
Harvesting the seed cones:
- Harvest unfertilised female seed cones from the end of August to mid-September
- The hops are cut off just above the ground. Subsequently, the pins are picked, harvested and dried.
Harvesting hop shoots:
- Mound plant in the spring like asparagus and cover with black foil, so that the plants can longer form chlorophyll
- The white, light red shoots are cut off and can be used raw or as a vegetable
