Planting Lubera® Rhubarb
Location:
Rhubarb tolerates light shade; however, maximum yields are only possible when light and nutrient conditions are good
Soil:
Light to moderately heavy, humus- rich; possibly improve with compost before planting; avoid waterlogging
Fertilisation: Organic fertiliser is preferred; incorporate compost or rotted manure every year
(February/March); provide each plant with 30 g fertiliser (6/8 months) in April.
Harvest:
• Do not harvest in the year of planting, since the rhizome is not very strong
• In the 2nd year, only harvest until mid-May
• In the 3rd year, the harvest can take place until mid-June
• Do not harvest rhubarb after the middle of June due to the rising content of oxalic acid in the stems; through the assimilating leaves the plant forms reserves for the next year
• Harvest 2–4 of the plants’ strongest leaves per week; remove the inflorescences that start appearing in May
