Lubera stops plant deliveries to the UK
Due to Brexit, we are not able to deliver to the UK. We are working on a solution on how we can continue to bring a wide range of Lubera plants to the UK and directly to our customers' homes in the future. However, such a solution will not be available before 2022 or 2023.

Lubera Press Event From A PR’s Perspective

IMG_5232_720

Last week saw the first UK Lubera Press Event take place at East Malling in Kent.  With limited space for the event it was my very hard job to select a good mix of only a few gardening press who would like to attend, there are so many excellent journalists and bloggers out there that it is so hard to choose!  But choose I did and what a superb group of people attended.

Waking up to a beautifully sunny day I could not believe how lucky we were after the recent awful weather.  Time seemed to race by as we prepared the conference room and gardens in the morning, and then for the nervous waiting.  I seem to revert back to childhood and birthday parties when waiting for the press to arrive, with an awful dreaded feeling in stomach … what if only one person turns up?  What if no one turns up?  And then they always do, in fact every event I have ever organised more than I expect to actually do!!
Lubera’s UK website has been going for just over a year and a half, but their relationship with East Malling has been longer. Lubera feel privileged to work very closely with East Malling Research (EMR) to produce the best 'fantastical' fruit they can.   Lubera is the exclusive home garden partner for EMR’s rubus breeding program – breeding exciting new raspberries for the future.  Lubera's founder and breeder Markus Kobelt selects new garden varieties together with Feli Fernandez of East Malling.

EMR is at the forefront of research in the UK on horticultural crops and their interactions with the environment. Their research on perennial fruit crops is known internationally and they are a significant source of pride regionally.

Through this partnership, and the wealth of plant breeding knowledge combined from both Lubera and EMR, novel and exciting new varieties abound for UK home gardeners.

Raspberry 'Autumn Amber' is one of the most recent release from the raspberry breeding programme at East Malling and after superb presentations from Markus Kobelt of Lubera about Breeding The Edible Garden, and also from Feli of EMR about raspberry breeding, we all had a chance to run riot in the raspberry fields to select and taste the best!

From tasting raspberries to viewing the superb trials of Redlove trees …. Soon we came to the highlight of the day … the new mini pear christening.
Readers of the Gardeners World newsletter were asked to send in their chosen name for a chance to win one of these superb pears.  The winning name decided upon was 'Joy Of Kent' which seemed to best describe the feeling of finding and tasting this pear in the Garden Of England.

With the pomp and ceremony fitting for this occasion….I announced the winning name and christened our beautiful new mini pear.  And this seemed and fitting and celebratory time to end our press day.
I have had some wonderful feedback from the lovely press (or as I call them our gardening colleagues) and you will be reading all about Lubera and East Malling and of course our new pear soon in the press.
Can anything be as good as the rich and joyful combination of sun, friends and fruit in the Garden Of England !!!!
