Product information "Hydrangea 'Schneeball'®"

The pure white flowers of Hydrangea macrophylla 'Schneeball' light up intensely from the dark green foliage.

The large, pure white flower balls give this hydrangea its name “snowball”. The luminous power of the white flowers is reinforced by the dark green foliage; in the autumn, the flowers slowly change colour with green and pink tints.
Huge snowballs

There is no question where this hydrangea got the name 'Snowball'. When the numerous buds open in July and merge into pure white flowers balls, they actually act like snowballs – quite big snowballs even. You do not want to be hit by such a snowball; the balls can reach up to 25 cm in diameter. The individual, small flowers have slightly wavy petals, which creates an elegant appearance. The white blooms radiate very powerfully through the dark green leaves.
By September, the white flowers are in perfect condition. In October greenish and pinkish red shades appear, but the beauty does not fade; the flowers are actually more exciting. The 'Snowball' hydrangea grows to about one metre and forms stable inflorescences, which do not separate due to the heaviness of the flowers. In the winter, the flowers stay on the plant for a long time and decorate it, even when you can make real snowballs.
More pleasure thanks to easy maintenance

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Snowball' grows best in the sun or in partial shade, with a neutral to acidic soil. Particularly during flowering, dryness is badly tolerated and a sufficient supply of water should be provided. Pruning is extremely simple; in the spring everything can be removed that has dried back. For older plants, dense shoots can also be removed in order to thin the plant.

In order to protect the delicate flower buds, which have already formed on the old wood, one can easily protect the hydrangeas: put a wire mesh around the plant and fill loosely with leaves.
Numerous possibilities for use

Due to the bright flowers, the hydrangea 'Schneeball' is particularly beautiful in bright sites, where the flowers can spread their entire luminosity. This can be an underplanting of sparse, tall trees or in the foreground of a group of trees. This hydrangea can be used as a solitary plant or in a group. In the end, it can also be placed on a balcony or terrace in a pot; it can even find a place in a conservatory or inside the house. In pots, however, overwintering around zero degrees Celsius is necessary.
