Product information "Buttercup Witch Hazel"

Corylopsis pauciflora, the so-called buttercup witch hazel, shows its yellow, bell-shaped flower in March, sometimes even earlier.

When the winter is slowly coming to an end, the first flowers already appear. They stand in dense clusters and defy the cold spring air. In autumn, the beautiful, yellow autumn colour looks for attention.
A delicate beauty

The buttercup witch hazel, together with witch hazel with which it is by the way related, is among the first to bloom in the garden year, along with few other plants. Already in March, the delicate yellow, bell-shaped flowers appear. The flowers are in small groups, forming numerous, 2 cm long flower clusters. When the sun shines, the flowers exude a pleasant scent, attracting the first insects. If this small ornamental shrub is planted in a sheltered location, for example on a house wall, the flowers develop in February. Only after flowering, the leaves venture out and do not obscure the view of the delicate flowers. The leaves are deciduous and in autumn they turn yellow, creating an attraction in the garden. The buttercup witch hazel grows slowly and reaches the final size of 1.5 m in height and width only after several years. It is also suitable for the smallest site in the garden and is particularly beautiful against dark conifers or in planters combined with low-growing spring bloomers.
Easy care

Corylopsis pauciflora prefers locations with always fresh soil and sun. If the soil dries too quickly, a partially shaded location should be chosen. In addition, a wind-protected site is advantageous because the delicate shoots are easily prone to frost.

Caring for the buttercup witch hazel is easy; pruning can be omitted, especially since the plant grows very slowly and remains low. If the chosen location is too small, the plant can be thinned out after flowering.
An all-rounder

Due to the small growth, the buttercup witch hazel can be used almost everywhere. You have a tiny front yard, a small space in front of a group of woody plants, an empty pot or want to plant something special in a bed with low shrubs? For all these cases the buttercup witch hazel is ideal. It can be used individually or in a group; it must only be ensured that this small beauty is not overgrown by larger plants.
