Product information "Magnolia 'Susan'"

Magnolia liliiflora 'Susan' is also called purple magnolia. From the end of April, its large, purple flowers open and become the eye-catcher of every garden. A single flower measures up to 12 cm and has an elegant, tulip-like shape. Even the fluffy, elongated flower buds are very decorative and adorn the plant throughout the winter.
Splendid magnolia leaves

Even after flowering, the purple magnolia does not need to hide. Its rich green foliage is almost exotic due to its size. In addition, it shines very strongly after sprouting and has a narrow, elegant shape.
Slow growth

Magnolia liliiflora 'Susan' grows slowly and reaches a height of about 150 cm after ten years. It grows as a multi-stemmed shrub or as a small tree. Basically, magnolias should not be strongly pruned because they develop a beautiful growth form by themselves. But if a branch gets “out of line”, there is nothing wrong with removing it in the spring or summer.
Protected garden places

Purple magnolias love wind-protected locations in the sun or partial shade. They are reliably frost hardy and prefer a slightly acidic to neutral, evenly moist soil. Due to their slow growth, they are also suitable for small gardens. In order to admire their flowers as often as possible, it is best to plant 'Susan' near the house or a sitting area. With their beautiful foliage and magnificent flowers, Purple magnolias also look very elegant in planters, where they can decorate balconies, terraces or house entrances.
